EXOTIC ANIMALS CARE & TRAINING
SPECIALIST ANIMAL CARE & TRAINING.
Good Piggy's experience extends far beyond traditional companion animals.
With almost 20 years of professional animal care and training experience across hundreds of species, Gareth provides practical, individual support for animals living in professional, managed and specialist care settings.
From developing training programs and improving husbandry behaviours to reviewing animal management, environments and staff practices, Good Piggy works collaboratively with the people who know their animals best to find practical solutions that improve care, safety and quality of life.
No two animals, teams or facilities are the same. Good Piggy prides itself on specialised, individualised care and training plans - no matter how big or small the job (or animal!) - so our professional services aren't sold as standard packages.
Get in touch to tell us about your animals, your team and what you'd like to achieve. We'll work with you to understand the scope of the project and develop an approach tailored to your needs.

TAILORED TO YOUR NEEDS
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING & CARE SERVICES
-
Practical support to understand, manage and improve behaviour in professional care settings.
From individual behavioural challenges to developing longer-term training strategies, we'll consider the animal's behaviour in the context of their history, environment, routines, social setting and management - then work with your team to develop practical solutions that can be implemented consistently.
-
Training animals to voluntarily participate in their own healthcare can improve welfare, reduce stress and make routine procedures safer and more efficient for animals and the people caring for them.
Good Piggy can assist with the development and implementation of cooperative husbandry behaviours for routine health checks, veterinary procedures, administering medication, injections, blood draws, weighing, physical examinations, body condition scoring, and other species-specific care requirements.
-
Sometimes the biggest improvements come from looking beyond an individual behaviour.
Good Piggy can review everyday animal management and work collaboratively with your team to identify practical opportunities to improve routines, training programs, enrichment, social management, husbandry practices and overall quality of care. Surviving is not the same as thriving.
-
Good enclosure design starts with truly considering the animals who will live within it.
Good Piggy can provide an animal behaviour and welfare perspective on new and existing environments, considering how enclosure design, furnishings, enrichment, animal movement, keeper access and management requirements can support both quality of life and effective day-to-day care.
-
Great animal care depends on confident, capable and consistent humans.
Good Piggy provides practical training and professional development for animal-care teams, tailored to your animals, staff and objectives. Sessions can cover training principles, practical techniques, behavioural observation, husbandry training, animal handling, measuring success, and other areas identified by you and your team.
Being responsible for an animal’s care is an enormous privilege - investing in working together, and having solid succession plans ensures the animals are cared for throughout their whole life. -

I’ve spent my entire career caring for animals, working with some of the largest zoological facilities in the world. I’ve tested myself and taken on some huge challenges. I would love to pass on what worked and what didn’t, and ensure the next generations of zookeepers and conservation professionals are equipped to provide the highest quality of care and training for their animals - whatever and wherever they may be.
